Energy Efficiency Project

Overview


In high-temperature industrial processes, thermal energy losses from outdated burners can be substantial. The client operates a manufacturing facility that relies on natural gas-fired burners for heat treatment. To reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, the company upgraded to regenerative burners, which recover and reuse waste heat from flue gases.

The client partnered with CarboSol to transform this technical upgrade into a certified carbon credit project under the Verra VCS framework.


Our Role


Eligibility Assessment & Methodology Selection:
CarboSol conducted a detailed evaluation of the burner replacement, confirming eligibility under AMS-II.D, a methodology focused on energy efficiency improvements in industrial processes.


Baseline Establishment & Additionality:
We established a credible baseline scenario based on the original burner’s performance, demonstrating that the project’s efficiency improvements and resulting emissions reductions would not have occurred without carbon financing.


PDD Development & Emission Calculations:
Our team:

  • Collected technical specifications of both the old and new burner systems
  • Modeled thermal energy savings and corresponding emissions reductions
  • Developed a robust Project Description Document (PDD)
  • Designed a monitoring plan to track fuel use, temperature, and operational efficiency
     

Coordination with Stakeholders:
CarboSol liaised with facility engineers, management team and Verra-approved validators to ensure technical accuracy and compliance throughout the validation process.


Results & Expected Impact


  • GHG Reductions: ~7,100 tCO₂e per year, reducing the carbon intensity of production
  • Efficiency Gains: Significant improvement in fuel combustion efficiency and heat recovery
  • Cost Savings: Lower energy consumption leads to operational cost reductions
  • Scalability: Sets a replicable model for burner optimization across other facilities or sectors
